At CES in January 2008 I saw this line of what La Crosse calls "the first satellite-assisted internet-powered weather station." When I saw one on sale at BestBuy for $59.99 I thought it was cheap enough to give a try.
Before I could get my screwdrivers on my new purchase I had to free it from it's plastic clam-shell packaging that everyone loves to hate. These guys have taken this kind of packaging to a whole new level of annoyance. Usually you just trim around the edge with scissors and the package opens right up. Not this one - they have glued a piece of cardboard on both the front and the back sealing the plastic together everywhere except the bubbles holding the devices. It is so tough to open I actually stopped opening the package and looked for directions on the package for how I was supposed to open it. If they made it this tough to open the package I thought this didn't bode well for getting a look inside the internet gateway.
